Sexual violence training
is crucial to counteracting the horrors of sexual violence. Through the National
Institute of Crime Prevention (NICP), the public can now receive training in the
area of sexual violence.
Formed in 1999 by four Law Enforcement Officers, the NICP envisioned a safer environment
for the public to live. Sexual violence training
instructors have a diverse background of specialties and have been nationally
recognized as experts in their fields. The mission is to provide the public and
private business professionals with quality training regarding sexual / domestic
violence issues that affect our lives.
Women are usually victimized by offenders they know, and are six times more likely
to be attacked by offenders with whom they had an intimate relationship. Each year
women are the victims of more than 4.5 million violent crimes, including approximately
500,000 rapes or other sexual assaults. In 29 percent of the violent crimes against
women by lone offenders the perpetrators are intimates--husbands, former husbands,
boyfriends or former boyfriends. The victims' friends or acquaintances committed
more than half of the rapes and sexual assaults. Intimates commit 26 percent of
rapes and sexual assaults.
These types of numbers are crucial to be aware of. We feel that by providing the
public with information and signs to watch out for, as well as actions they can
take, they can make a difference in the number of sexual assault crimes that take
place in their communities.
